Participant pathway
5 steps · 12 minutes
Ask permission for the practice and explain the exact round: 20 seconds of prayerful attention, 20 seconds to consider one theme, 40 seconds to communicate, and 10 seconds to close. Either person may pass or pause. A brief Scripture based encouragement is a valid option.
Start the 90 second timer. During seconds 0–20, attend prayerfully; during seconds 20–40, weigh one possible theme; during seconds 40–80, offer a concise encouragement with proportionate language; during seconds 80–90, thank the recipient and close. Follow the timer while allowing the experience itself to unfold naturally.
Write what you actually noticed, how the meaning developed, and the words you shared. Ask the recipient what was understandable and helpful. Keep any uncertainty visible. Treat the short duration as a communication constraint and evaluate the content with the same care used in a longer encounter.
Repeat the exact 90 second structure with roles reversed. Reconfirm consent, start a fresh timer, and allow each participant to use a quiet pause or pass. Keep the closing brief so the round ends within the agreement.
Discuss clarity, specificity, pacing, and recipient choice in both rounds. Identify how revelation, interpretation, and application overlapped or followed one another. Each person chooses one refinement, such as fewer metaphors, a slower pace, or clearer distinction between an impression and its meaning.
Fictional practice example
During the listening period, a participant thinks about steadiness. She considers a simple encouragement to receive support while continuing faithful service. She shares it in two sentences and closes on time. Her partner finds the language clear and asks to reflect further. They record that response and keep the interpretation available for prayerful consideration.
Pause and reflect
What did the time limit change about my communication?
How did perception, interpretation, and application actually unfold?
Which single refinement would improve my next short encounter?

The timer helps us practice focus and considerate brevity. Each person can participate at a comfortable level.
Ask each participant to name one clear phrase and one practical improvement.
Use a written encouragement or extend the preparation before the timed round for accessibility. The optional timed practice itself remains 90 seconds.
Agree on confidentiality and consent before sharing personal experiences. Invite participants to weigh impressions through Scripture, prayer, trusted counsel, and the fruit of their responses over time.
