Participant pathway
5 steps · 18 minutes
Ask how your partner wishes to be addressed and confirm pronunciation. They may use a first name, chosen name, or fictional practice name. Invite them to share its personal significance only if they wish. Record exactly what they volunteer.
Pray for wisdom and list two associations that arise. Identify whether they concern a sound, a place, a remembered story, a verified meaning, or an inward impression. Keep historical and linguistic claims limited to information you can support.
Select one association that could lead toward a gentle biblical encouragement. Read a relevant passage in context. Write a brief message that explains the connection as an association and gives the freedom of the recipient to weigh it. Keep the person larger than the meaning you attach to the name.
Ask permission to share. State the association briefly, then offer the encouragement. Listen to the response of the recipient without requiring agreement. Ask what they understood and whether they would like to keep any part for reflection.
Write the association, biblical connection, actual words shared, and recipient feedback. Revise any wording that sounded like a fixed assignment or guaranteed future. End with gratitude for the person and a simple blessing grounded in Scripture.
Fictional practice example
The name Grace prompts a participant to reflect on gracious speech. After reading Colossians 4:6 in context, she offers an encouragement about speaking with kindness and attentiveness. She explains that the name suggested the theme and invites her partner to weigh its relevance. The association remains a starting point for care, with the recipient free to describe her own calling.

How did I preserve the freedom of the recipient to understand their own name and calling?
What feedback would improve my wording?
