Slide by slide speaking notes

Each note supplies complete facilitation language and purpose. Another facilitator should attribute the case to Dr. Brown.

01 · Welcome · 0–2 minutesSee with compassion. Speak with care.

Welcome to From Natural Sight to Spiritual Insight. Today we are exploring how an ordinary observation may become the beginning of a spiritually meaningful encounter. We will attend to what we observe, what we experience inwardly, and what we sense spiritually. We will practice discerning meaning and communicating encouragement. Our aim is attentive listening, compassionate speech, and space for God to work.

02 · Foundation · 2–3 minutesStrengthen. Encourage. Comfort.

Introduce 1 Corinthians 14:3 as the purpose guiding the exercise. Invite each person to decide freely whether to join a pair or reflect individually. Ask partners to receive one another with respect. Each recipient may identify what resonates, consider a word further, or set it aside. Keep personal details within the agreed conversation.

03 · Case study · 3–5 minutesThe eyes before her

Dr. Sherry-Ann Brown first noticed the eyes of a person wearing glasses. Concerning that same person, she then experienced an inward image of eyes, associated with seeing, followed by an inward image of a mouth, associated with speaking. Her external attention had been on the eyes. She described a felt spiritual impression. The meaning unfolded as she spoke a word about the recipient noticing people who feel unseen, pointing them toward God, and speaking His truth. Tell this in the third person when another facilitator leads. Dr. Brown may tell her own account in the first person. Preserve the fact that the inward mouth followed the inward eyes. Her external focus was the eyes. These details establish the specific experience being discussed.

04 · Meaning · 5–7 minutesA word that turned toward others

Read the complete original word from the case study if helpful. Explain that this is Dr. Brown’s account of a word she spoke over someone else. The symbolic language of eyes and mouth expresses seeing with compassion and speaking encouragement. Its potential impact includes the original recipient and people that recipient may later encourage. Recipient outcomes have yet to be documented in this case record. Invite participants to identify the theme without adding unreported reactions or future events.

05 · Learning · 7–9 minutesFive movements of attention

Introduce the first three learning movements. Ask: What did I physically observe? What did I subsequently experience inwardly? What spiritual impression did I sense? Describe each in plain language. This is a learning aid drawn from the documented encounter. Participants may experience words, Scripture, imagery, or a quiet awareness. Give room for different experiences and for quiet prayer.

06 · Learning · 9–11 minutesLet discernment shape speech

Introduce the remaining movements: discern and speak. In Dr. Brown’s account, meaning unfolded as she communicated. Invite participants to preserve that overlap when describing their own experience. Compare an observation, “I noticed glasses,” with a possible meaning, “I wonder whether this speaks of helping people see.” Keep interpretation open to Scripture, feedback, and continued discernment.

07 · Demonstration · 11–14 minutesWatch a careful demonstration

Ask a willing participant to join. Take a brief quiet pause. Describe an actual observation and any inward impression you can truthfully report. State a possible meaning with humble language. Invite the recipient’s response. If using a prepared illustration, introduce it explicitly as a teaching example. For example: “Here is an invented illustration of the distinction: I notice a notebook; I consider the theme of learning; I offer a prayer for wisdom.” Ask the group to distinguish observation, interpretation, and encouragement.

08 · Partner practice · 14–18 minutesSee, Sense, Speak

Open the practice timer. Allow 30 seconds to agree on roles, then start the preparation stage. Participants may look naturally toward their partner or use a comfortable alternative. Keep attention respectful. Invite the speaker to name the impression and its considered meaning. Invite the recipient to share what was meaningful and what needs further reflection. The timer is a guide; pause when a participant needs time.

09 · Partner practice · 18–22 minutesExchange roles

Continue with the second partner. Use the remaining preparation, delivery, feedback, and 30 second gathering stages. Encourage a simple prayer or Scripture-based encouragement when that is the participant’s honest experience. Thank both partners. The full guided sequence totals eight minutes, including the opening and closing transitions.

10 · Reflection · 22–26 minutesName what happened

Invite participants to use the seven workbook prompts. Ask what was actually observed and what was experienced inwardly. Ask how meaning developed during preparation or speech. Invite feedback about specificity, clarity, compassion, and space to discern. Participants may keep their reflection private in their own journal or choose account saving with the displayed administrator access notice. Invite general learning examples for group discussion with participant permission.

11 · Application · 26–29 minutesChoose one faithful next step

Ask each participant to identify one practical action: listen with greater attention, offer a considerate word, return to a Scripture, or revisit feedback. Invite them to name when they will reflect again. Use the six rubric dimensions as descriptions of practice. Rate only what was observed. These ratings track learning behaviors; claims about divine origin remain matters of discernment. Collect one suggestion for improving the workshop.

12 · Prayer · 29–30 minutesCarry attention into service

Father, thank You that You see every person with love and compassion. Open our eyes to recognize those who feel unseen. Deepen our sensitivity to Your presence and Your heart for others. Give us wisdom to discern what You may be showing us, humility to weigh what we perceive, and courage to communicate encouragement with love. Let our words bring strength to the weary, hope to the discouraged, and comfort to those who feel alone. Teach us to recognize Your truth, honor the people before us, and continually point others toward You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Evaluate the learning with care.

Use 1 for emerging, 2 for developing, 3 for demonstrated, and 4 for consistently demonstrated. Leave a dimension unrated when it was outside the observed practice. Ask participants for one helpful element and one improvement.

Observation

Describe the external detail accurately.

Spiritual awareness

Describe the inward experience in your own words.

Discernment

Distinguish the impression from its possible meaning.

Communication

Offer understandable, compassionate encouragement.

Biblical alignment

Connect the encouragement thoughtfully with Scripture.

Responsiveness

Receive feedback respectfully and preserve recipient choice.

Facilitator debrief prompts
  • Which details can the participant describe precisely?
  • Where did interpretation enter the account?
  • How did speaking and meaning develop together?
  • Was the encouragement understandable and compassionate?
  • How did the recipient exercise choice and offer feedback?
  • Which next step is specific and manageable?

Record demonstrated learning and participant-reported usefulness separately. Follow-up may document later action and outcomes. A meaningful learning experience may include quiet prayer, attentive listening, or an honest description of uncertainty.

Expand to 60 minutes.

30–38

Progressive articulation

Repeat the eight minute partner practice. After each word, describe what was understood before speaking and what became clearer during delivery.

38–46

Different pathways of attention

Repeat with attention to words, Scripture, imagery, and felt impressions. Each person records the form that accurately describes the experience.

46–54

Precision and compassion

Repeat the practice. Keep the encouragement closely connected to the actual impression and invite feedback about clarity and usefulness.

54–60

Integration and prayer

Take three minutes to record learning, two minutes to share one practical next step, and one minute for the closing prayer.

Closing commissioning prayer

Father, thank You that You see every person with love and compassion. Open our eyes to recognize those who feel unseen. Deepen our sensitivity to Your presence and Your heart for others. Give us wisdom to discern what You may be showing us, humility to weigh what we perceive, and courage to communicate encouragement with love. Let our words bring strength to the weary, hope to the discouraged, and comfort to those who feel alone. Teach us to recognize Your truth, honor the people before us, and continually point others toward You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
