A five movement pathway

Move from current evidence toward coordinated stewardship.

  1. 01

    Gather

Organize current clinical summaries, medication lists, insurance contracts, benefit documents, and qualified expense records.

  2. 02

    Understand

Review health trajectory, plan terms, carrier rules, HSA or FSA eligibility, family needs, and financial assumptions.

  3. 03

    Convene

Bring the appropriate care, insurance, tax, legal, and financial professionals into clearly bounded conversations.

  4. 04

    Coordinate

Align healthcare spending, coverage, cash reserves, income continuity, longevity, and household support.

  5. 05

    Review

Return periodically as health information, family responsibilities, laws, plans, and carrier practices change.

Ask questions that respect each professional boundary.

Advisor conversation guide

Insurance

Has health materially changed since underwriting or policy issue?

Ask the licensed insurance professional whether the relevant carrier and contract provide any review pathway. Outcomes remain carrier specific.

HSA/FSA

Which documented expenses may qualify?

Review current eligibility, account rules, plan terms, substantiation, contribution limits, and timing with the appropriate administrator and tax professional.

Longevity

Does the financial model reflect the life the plan is intended to support?

Revisit healthcare reserves, retirement distributions, caregiving, disability coverage, business continuity, and long horizon family priorities.

Care team

Which health decisions support the clinical plan?

Keep prevention, treatment, medications, testing, devices, and monitoring within a qualified healthcare relationship.

Qualified healthcare spending

Organize the dollars before deciding how to use them.

IRS Publication 969 explains that HSA distributions used to pay qualified medical expenses are not taxed, and health FSA reimbursements used for qualified medical expenses are not taxed, subject to eligibility and plan rules.

Clinician visits, prescriptions, testing, and monitoring supplies may enter the organizer as documented planning inputs. The clinical purpose, account rules, plan terms, and current tax law determine eligibility.

Professional learning concept

The Heart Healthy Financial Plan workshop

A bounded breakout experience for financial advisors can develop three skills: recognizing when a documented health change may warrant a carrier specific conversation, organizing qualified healthcare spending, and integrating health trajectory into longevity and continuity planning.

Workshop scheduling, continuing education status, sponsorship, and registration will be announced only after independent approval.
