How the South Shore workshop emerged
Pastor Joe encouraged deeper prayer concerning Ruskin and Greater South Shore.
Through his coaching questions, Dr. Brown was encouraged to press more deeply into the Lord’s presence concerning the people and place immediately within reach: what God is doing and desires to nurture, what strongholds or obstructive patterns may require careful prayer, and how faithful service might begin locally.
Before targeted research into Ruskin’s strongholds and forgottenness, she dictated an impression of a quiet waterfront community that was spiritually dispersed, wounded by storms, vulnerable to complacency and forgottenness, yet filled with hidden generosity, resilience, hope, and people ready to awaken. Research followed and revealed documentary echoes involving forgotten ideals, suppressed history, racial exclusion, Indigenous erasure, fading institutions, and buried memory. These impressions remain discernment material to be weighed through Scripture, prayer, mature counsel, community listening, reliable evidence, consent, timing, and observable fruit.
The workshop had been percolating through earlier promptings and decades of formation: community outreach through The Well approximately twenty years ago, service across the United States and internationally, sustained medical and spiritual mission work in Monte Coca, and the education, mentorship, research, and formation of health professionals, trainees, interns, and emerging leaders. During the closing days of August 2026, those strands came into clearer form as a portable Christian formation experience that South Shore can help test and refine.
