Participant pathway
5 steps · 30 minutes
Identify the specific skill the experience illustrates, such as separating observation from interpretation or communicating briefly. Write an outcome that a participant can demonstrate within the available time.
Preserve the sequence and essential wording. Secure permission for personal material, remove identifying details where appropriate, and mark every invented element as fictional. Keep the storyteller’s explanation distinct from your teaching interpretation.
Write three or four clear instructions that lead toward the learning outcome. Give participants the actual case text and a concrete response format, such as a timeline, comparison table, or two sentence reflection.
Prepare questions about what participants noticed, how they interpreted it, and what they would communicate. Add biblical context and a practical transfer question. Include space for more than one plausible reading when the case supports it.
Ask a trusted partner to follow the instructions. Observe where clarification is needed, refine the wording, and record the version date. Keep feedback about the activity separate from judgments about the storyteller.
Fictional worked example
A fictional account describes noticing a bridge and interpreting it as reconciliation. The facilitator sets the learning aim as distinguishing observation from meaning. Participants mark the visible detail, possible interpretations, and a gentle response. The debrief examines why reconciliation is one possible association and what further context would help.
Pause and reflect
What exactly will participants be able to practice?
Which details are essential to preserve the account faithfully?
How will the debrief help participants transfer the learning responsibly?
