## How can a Christian community invite meaningful contributions across generations?

Begin with a shared purpose, ask people how they wish to contribute, and agree on roles that fit their experience, interests, responsibilities, and capacity.

## Begin with a shared purpose

Name the practical purpose of the gathering or project. A shared purpose gives people something concrete to consider: preparing a welcoming space, supporting a learner, caring for a neighborhood, or helping a community understand a resource. Ask which part of that purpose matters to each person. Their answers help reveal the range of knowledge and care already present.

## Invite experience in the words of the person offering it

Ask each participant to describe an experience they choose to share. Useful questions include what they have practiced, what they enjoy learning, and what contribution they would find meaningful. Let people describe their own abilities and preferences. Age can provide context for a life story, while individual experience gives a more specific starting point for collaboration.

## Offer more than one way to contribute

A project may need preparation, thoughtful questions, practical coordination, creative expression, welcoming, and follow through. Offer several entry points and explain each responsibility in ordinary language. People may prefer to contribute through speaking, writing, organizing, or a quiet practical task. Invite them to select a role and discuss the support that would help them participate.

## Make learning reciprocal

In a fictional church welcome project, one volunteer understands the history of the community and another enjoys testing a phone guide. Each listens to the other. Together they create clearer directions and ask a newcomer which details are useful. Their partnership grows through shared learning, with each contribution connected to the same practical purpose.

## Agree on responsibility and review

Write down who will carry each task, when it is needed, and whom to contact with a question. Confirm that each person accepts the responsibility and can ask for adjustment. A brief review after the project can explore what helped, what was difficult, and what each participant would like to practice next. Include appreciation for the contributions that supported the whole.

## Carry the experience into reflection

Read Romans 12:3–8 and consider the image of a shared body. In your own reflection, describe the contribution you offered, a perspective you received, and the practical result you observed. The Convergence Q45 learning pathways provide a place to connect this experience with gifts, lived strengths, and a next faithful move.
